Meet Bonnie Christensen, LMHC
Online Therapy in Florida
Pattern-focused therapy is online therapy for adults in Florida dealing with anxiety, recurring relationship problems, burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and self-doubt. The work focuses on finding and changing the underlying pattern rather than managing symptoms one at a time.
Bonnie Christensen, LMHC
For more than 25 years, I’ve helped people uncover the hidden emotional patterns behind anxiety, relationships, burnout, perfectionism, and self-doubt.
Most people don’t need another coping skill. They need someone who can connect the dots they’ve been living.
Before opening my private practice, I spent 20 years leading behavioral health programs across hospitals, crisis services, forensic settings, and addiction treatment. As a Florida Qualified Supervisor, I also train other therapists. More than 25 years of clinical experience has taught me that people rarely stay stuck because they don’t know what’s wrong. They stay stuck because they don’t yet understand the pattern.
“My clients don’t need someone to tell them what’s wrong. They need someone who can explain why the same patterns keep repeating.”

Why does this keep happening to me?
You’ve asked it in the car. In the shower. In the dark.

Request a ConsultationWhat twenty-five years of practice shows
The relationship. The job. The family. The money. The same argument.
They look like five different problems.
They’re one pattern, in five disguises.
There’s a moment clients describe almost word for word —
“Oh. That explains everything.”
Thirty years reorganize at once. Events you’d filed under bad luck, bad picker, or something wrong with me snap into one intelligible line. You stop being a mystery to yourself.
What twenty-five years of therapy has taught me
The pattern is not random.
It usually has a beginning.
Most people spend years trying to fix the symptoms. The work is not chasing every new problem. It is finding the original pattern that quietly keeps creating them.
Questions people ask before they reach out
You may recognize yourself before you know what to call it.
Why do I keep repeating the same relationships?
Because you may not be choosing people randomly—you may be choosing a familiar emotional pattern. Many adults unknowingly recreate relationship dynamics they learned earlier in life, even when those dynamics are painful. Pattern-focused therapy helps trace the repetition to its origin so it becomes visible and can begin to change.
Why do I know what is wrong but still cannot change it?
Because insight alone does not always change a pattern. Knowing that you people-please, avoid conflict, overthink, or choose unavailable partners describes what is happening. Lasting change becomes more possible when you understand why the pattern developed, what it once protected you from, and what continues to activate it now.
Why do I always end up taking care of everyone else?
Caretaking is often a learned survival role rather than simply a personality trait. If you learned to manage other people’s emotions, keep the peace, or earn closeness by being useful, over-responsibility can become automatic in adulthood. Therapy helps identify where the role began so boundaries no longer feel like wrongdoing.
Why do I feel guilty when I put myself first?
Because somewhere along the way, you may have learned that your needs were inconvenient, selfish, or less important than everyone else’s. Guilt does not necessarily mean you are doing something wrong. Sometimes it is the emotional signal of an old pattern being challenged.
Why does the same situation keep happening with different people?
When similar conflict follows you across relationships, jobs, friendships, or family situations, the common thread may be an unexamined pattern in how you connect, protect yourself, or respond under stress. That is not about blaming yourself. It means there may be something understandable—and changeable—beneath the repetition.
Why does this keep happening to me?
Because patterns often repeat until they are recognized and understood. Many emotional patterns began as adaptations that once made sense. They can continue running quietly in the background until someone helps you connect the dots. That is the work we do together: finding the original pattern creating the same problem in different forms.
You do not need another list of coping skills. You need to understand the pattern that has been quietly shaping your life. That is the work we do together.

Couples Counseling
Sometimes the relationship isn’t the problem. The pattern is.
Most couples aren’t stuck because they don’t love each other. They’re stuck because they keep repeating the same relationship patterns until both people feel unheard, frustrated, or disconnected.
Couples counseling helps you slow those patterns down, understand what’s happening underneath the conflict, and learn healthier ways to communicate and reconnect.
Whether you’re trying to repair your relationship, rebuild trust, improve communication, or decide what comes next, therapy provides a place where both partners can be heard.

Ask about insurancePrivacy, flexibility, and continuity
Some clients choose private pay for greater privacy, flexibility, and continuity of care.
Private pay does not require insurance authorization, diagnosis-based billing approval, or claim submission to an insurance company.
Request a ConsultationClient responsibility: Clients are responsible for understanding copays, deductibles, coinsurance amounts, authorization requirements, and any non-covered services. Benefits may be verified before services begin when possible, but verification is not a guarantee of payment by the insurance company.
Payment transparency: Clients have the right to receive information regarding fees, billing practices, cancellation policies, and estimated costs of services. Clients who are uninsured or who choose not to use insurance have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of services.
Important coaching note: Coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions, does not create a therapist-client relationship, and is not a substitute for psychotherapy.

Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Current insurance plans include Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, and UMR.

What is Pattern Coaching?
Pattern Coaching is non-clinical coaching for people who want to understand recurring life patterns, improve relationships, make decisions, and create change. It is available nationwide, private pay only, and is not psychotherapy.
How do I start?
Call, text, or email Bonnie. The first step is to request a brief consultation so we can determine whether this work feels like a good fit.
How much does online therapy cost in Florida?
Individual therapy is $175 per 50-minute session and couples counseling is $225 per 60-minute session at Christensen Mental Health. Pattern Coaching is $150 per 60-minute session and is private pay only. Insurance may reduce your cost depending on your individual plan and benefits.
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy is clinical mental health treatment and is available only to clients physically located in Florida. Pattern Coaching is non-clinical support for recurring patterns, decisions, relationships, and personal growth. Coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions and is available nationwide.
Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?
For many adults, online therapy can provide effective, consistent care while making sessions easier to attend. Whether telehealth is appropriate depends on the client’s needs, clinical concerns, preferences, privacy, and access to care. Sessions are conducted through a secure telehealth platform.
Does insurance cover couples counseling?
Sometimes. Coverage for couples counseling varies by insurance plan. Some plans may cover services when they meet clinical and billing requirements, while others exclude couples work. Coverage should be verified before treatment begins, and private pay is available.
What happens in the first session?
The first session focuses on your story, what keeps happening, when you first noticed it, and what you have already tried. My work begins by connecting the dots beneath the immediate problem rather than treating each concern as unrelated.
How soon can I start?
Availability varies. Request a consultation to discuss what you are looking for and the earliest appropriate opening.
Who do you work with?
I work with adults throughout Florida, often high-functioning people experiencing anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-doubt, relationship strain, and recurring emotional patterns. I also provide online couples counseling in Florida and non-clinical Pattern Coaching nationwide.
Can I use out-of-network benefits?
If I am not in-network with your insurance plan, you may be able to pay privately and request a superbill for possible reimbursement. Reimbursement is determined by your plan, so confirm your out-of-network mental health benefits directly with your insurer.
